Leyte and Samar Island : Exotic Island of Philippines

An islets or cans or keys are such a very small island that emergent land features on atolls. An island surrounded by river or lake is known as Holm or eyot. An archipelago is related to geologically and geographically grouping of an island.

In the Philippines there are two islands situated one is in Visayas group of Philippines i.e. Leyte and other is in the central Philippines i.e. Samar. Leyte Island is spread over about 110 mi (180 km) in north- south and 40 mi (65 km) in its widest point. At some point in the north at about 1.2 mi (2 km) by the San Juanico Strait it is nearly join to Samar Island. Also to the north of Leyte there is a island province of Biliran which is joining by a bridge across the Biliran Strait. Mindanao is separated from th e south of Leyte island by the Surigao Strait. Leyte is setback freom the east by Philippines sea of the Pacific Ocean. Leyte Gulf is formed by the Dinagat to southeast and Samar to northeast. Cebu and Bohol is at the west of Leyte. The island is mostly mountainous and heavily forested. In the northeast Leyte Valley is much agriculture.

Northern Leyte and southern Leyte is the two province of the island politically. Southern Leyte province includes Panaon Island to its south and Biliran Island to its north. Biliran Island is a sub-division of Leyte. Early days it is a separate province which is known as Biliran Province.
On the northeast corner of eastern shore Leyte Gulf, on the west coast Ormoc City and Tacloban city are chief cities of the Leyte Island. Near Ormoc city there is geothermal electric power plants by which Leyte is notable in earlier days. In the Second World War Leyte is most famous for its role of reconquest of Philippines. General Douglas MacArthur waded on 20th October 1944 on ashore of Leyte, saying “I have returned”.
Samar province, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar are the three province of the Samar Island. The Eastern Visayas region is the three province of Samar along with nearby Leyte and Biliran Island. After Mindanao and Luzon Island Samar Island is the third largest Island of Philippines. In Visayas Samar is the most eastern Island. By the San Juanico Strait Samar Island is separated from Leyte which only two kilometers across from it’s narrowest. The San Juanico Bridge was crossed this strait. The country’s largest Island, the Bicol Peninsula on Luzon is at southeast of Samar Island. These two are separated by the San Bernardino Strait. The Leyte Gulf is at the south of Samar. During the Second World War one of the most decisive navel battles is the site of Battle of Leyte Gulf. To the east of Samar the Gulf is open into Philippines Sea which is the part of Pacific Ocean.
